Why a dented fork tube matters

Event Description:
This fork tube was recently brought to us with some damage to the upper tube, which we were going to replace for the customer. Little did they know, there was damage to their inner fork tube as well!
It might not look like much to the untrained eye, but let's break down why a dented fork tube matters:
When your suspension compresses or extends, the inner fork tube slides in and out of the outer fork tube. The movement should be smooth for proper performance.
If a tube is dented or bent, it will stop the fork tube from sliding freely, with the damage causing a resistance that will make the suspension feel inconsistent and firmer than normal.
As well as the safety risks of instability and the effect on response time, ineffective suspension leads to more force being transferred to other areas of the bike, causing premature wear and potential other damages.
Regular suspension servicing can catch damage like this before it snowballs into bigger problems.
